iPhone Planet Prediction: iPhone 4 On T-Mobile By End Of Q3

Ok, I’m going out on a limb here, but I’ve been putting 2 and 2 together lately and coming up with 4… iPhone 4 that is.  I have some sources, and although those sources wouldn’t reveal what the project is, there is a project… a “dark project” over at T-Mobile that they’ve been working on for a while.  While I can’t be sure, I’m thinking that the “dark project” is that the iPhone 4 (and 3Gs as well) will be heading over to Magenta by the end of Q3.  Since July is pretty much in the can, that means within the next two months, T-Mobile should become the next carrier to carry the coveted iPhone.  Many T-Mobile customers already use their unlocked iPhones on T-Mo’s network, albeit EDGE only because the 3G frequencies used by T-Mo are different than AT&Ts.  Since T-Mo’s a GSM network like AT&T, it wouldn’t really be a big deal for Apple to start busting out models that covers the 1 extra frequency that T-Mo uses for 3G.  AT&T uses 1700 and 1900 and T-Mo uses 1700 and 2100, so it’s just 1 frequency away from being 100 percent compatible.  The big problem with Verizon was the cost in developing such a radically different iPhone to work on their CDMA network, and considering Everyone’s heading for LTE, Apple doesn’t seem too keen on investing in a technology that’s being shown the door.  Meanwhile, T-Mobile just threw the switch on HSPA+ for 85 million people, and plans to have that up to 185 million by year’s end.  It makes logical sense that if Apple were going to unleash the iPhone on another carrier, T-Mobile seems like not only the logical, but only choice.

Not only that, T-Mobile already sells the iPhone in Germany, so it’s not like it’s unlikely, as it’s already a reality in Europe.  So, I’m going to step out on a limb here and say that T-Mobile’s “dark project” is the release of the iPhone on T-Mobile’s network by the end of Q3.
